Bosch and Siemens Dishwasher E15 Error in Dubai: What It Means and How to Fix It

Published Updated By Dishwasher Experts Dubai

E15 on a Bosch or Siemens dishwasher means the anti-flood protection has detected water in the base tray underneath the machine. A float switch in that tray has lifted, so the dishwasher stops the program, blocks the water supply and runs the drain pump to stop a leak from becoming a flood.

In other words, E15 is a symptom, not the fault itself. Something has put water where it should not be, and the code will keep coming back until that water is gone and its source is fixed. This guide explains the likely causes, the checks that are safe to do at home, and why a recurring E15 is usually a job for a technician.

What the E15 code means on Bosch and Siemens dishwashers

Bosch and Siemens dishwashers are made by the same group and share most of their error codes, so E15 means the same thing on both brands. Underneath the tub is a plastic base tray with a small float, usually made of polystyrene, sitting on a switch. In normal use the tray is dry. If water collects there, the float rises, the switch trips and the control board shows E15.

On many models you will also hear the drain pump keep running even after the program has stopped. That is deliberate: the machine is trying to empty itself so no more water can escape. On models that use an Aquastop supply hose, the safety valve at the tap end of the hose also closes. Machines without a display show faults through indicator lights instead of a code, and the light pattern varies by model, so check your user manual if you do not see "E15" written out.

Why E15 triggers

Foam overflow

This is the one cause you can fully fix yourself. Washing-up liquid, either added by mistake or left on dishes that were pre-washed by hand, creates far more foam than dishwasher detergent. The suds can spill over the tub and into the base tray. If you open the door and see a tub full of bubbles, this is very likely your cause.

A leak inside the machine

Far more often, E15 comes from a slow internal leak. The usual sources are:

  • A split or loose internal hose, or a hose clamp that has worked loose.
  • A worn seal on the circulation (wash) pump or the drain pump.
  • A cracked or perished seal around the sump at the bottom of the tub.
  • A faulty inlet valve or a crack in the water inlet or softener assembly on the side of the machine.
  • Less often, a door seal that lets water run down inside the casing; on most machines a door seal leak shows up on the floor in front instead.

Water spilled while moving the machine

If the dishwasher was recently moved, installed or tilted with water still in the sump, that water can run into the base tray and trigger E15 even though nothing is leaking. Once the tray dries out, the code should not return.

Safe checks before you call a technician

  1. Switch off the power and close the water supply. This stops any further water reaching the machine while you investigate.
  2. Look for foam. Open the door. If the tub is full of suds, scoop them out with a cup and a damp cloth, leave the door open, and later run a rinse program with no detergent. Use only dishwasher detergent from then on.
  3. Check around the machine. Look under the kick plate and along the floor for water, and lay towels down. Shine a torch under the sink at the inlet and drain hose connections and check for drips or damp patches.
  4. Let the base tray dry. The float only drops once the water in the tray is gone. You will often see advice to tilt the machine backwards so the water runs out of the tray. Treat that with caution: only consider it on a freestanding machine, with two people, with the power off, the water closed and enough slack in the hoses. Do not try it with a built-in or integrated dishwasher; removing it from the cabinet risks damaging the hoses, the door panel and your kitchen. The safer option is to leave the machine off with the door ajar and give the tray time to dry, which can take longer than you expect.
  5. Restart and watch. Restore the water and power and run a short program while you watch for leaks. If E15 comes back quickly, there is an active leak. Switch off, close the water, and stop using the machine until it has been inspected.

Why E15 often needs a technician

Clearing a foam overflow or a one-off spill is a home job. A returning E15 is different: it means water is escaping from somewhere inside the machine, and finding it usually involves removing the kick plate and side or base panels, running the machine with the casing open, and tracing the leak to a specific hose, seal, pump or valve. That part is then replaced and the base tray dried before the machine goes back into use.

Two things not to do. First, do not keep resetting the code and running the machine. A slow leak can soak the cabinet base and flooring, and in an apartment it can reach the unit below. Second, never bypass or wedge the float switch. It is the only thing standing between a leak and a flooded kitchen.

Our technicians trace and repair E15 leaks on both brands. See our Bosch dishwasher repair service, our Siemens dishwasher repair service, or our dishwasher water leakage repair page for what a visit covers.

E15 vs E24 vs E25

These three codes are easy to confuse because all three involve water in the wrong place. E15 is about water under the tub, in the base tray. E24 means water is stuck inside the tub because the drain path is blocked, usually at the filter, hose or sink. E25 means the drain pump itself is blocked or its cover is loose. If you have standing water in the tub rather than an E15, our guide to a dishwasher not draining covers the full set of checks.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reset an E15 error on my Bosch or Siemens dishwasher myself?

Only after the base tray is dry. The float switch stays raised while there is water in the tray, so the code returns until the water is gone. If the cause was foam or a one-off spill, drying the tray clears it. If E15 comes back after that, there is an internal leak that needs to be found and repaired.

Is it safe to keep using a dishwasher that shows E15?

No. E15 means water has escaped into the base of the machine. Running it again can make the leak worse and damage your cabinets or flooring. Switch it off, close the water supply and have the leak checked.

Why is my dishwasher pump running nonstop with an E15 error?

On many Bosch and Siemens models, the drain pump runs continuously while E15 is active. It is a safety feature that empties the machine so no more water can escape. Switch off the power and close the water supply while you investigate.

Can washing-up liquid cause an E15 error?

Yes. Washing-up liquid creates much more foam than dishwasher detergent, and the suds can overflow into the base tray and trip the float switch. Remove the foam, let the tray dry, and use only dishwasher detergent.

Should I tilt my dishwasher to clear E15?

Only on a freestanding machine, with the power off, the water closed, enough slack in the hoses and two people to handle it. Do not try it with a built-in or integrated dishwasher. Removing it from the cabinet can damage hoses and panels, and tilting does not fix the leak that caused the problem.
